THE Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality would like to thank the community, businesses and private individuals who participated in the two-day islandwide beach cleanup held on Sept. 26 and 27 that gathered 8.6 tons of trash on Saipan alone.
The tally was the most recently available and could still change as BECQ is still finalizing its numbers.
More than 570 individuals on Saipan, 147 from Tinian and 657 people from Rota participated in the 29th Annual International Coastal Cleanup.
Rota was able to gather about 2,244 lbs. of trash while Tinian collected 278 lbs.
In a statement, BECQ encourages businesses to participate in the “adopt-a-beach” program.
BECQ said it wanted to to thank “DPW-Solid Waste Division, and MINA’s Tasi Watch Rangers for partnering with us in this year’s International Coastal Cleanup. Without their support we would not have had such a successful event. We would like to thank everyone who participated for helping to keep our oceans litter free. Please continue these efforts to protect our oceans and coasts by joining our adopt-a-beach program!” Interested groups and individuals should contact Jihan Buniag at email@example.com or 664.8513 for more information.
